So Contemporary Art Daily is a website with a relatively simple concept: we keep track of most of the exhibition venues for contemporary art around the world and post especially interesting or important shows each day. There's nothing like it that I can find for the contemporary art world, and I am convinced there's a wide audience for it there (which may not overlap much with tl.net. I mostly posted the ad so I could avoid feeling guilty about swooping in with a request for help). I'd like to ask for advice about ways to improve traffic without advertising. I've done a lot of studying, and I think I have a pretty high-quality product, but I just don't have a good idea of how to market it. So far, my traffic is based mostly on my commenting on a few other art-related blogs and websites and appending my URL as if it was a signature. But that's obviously pretty limited. And I'm just not sure what to do to drive more traffic.
The stakes are relatively high. Because C. A. Daily is very limited in scope, advertisements there will be targeted to a very specific commercial demographic, which means I can charge a fair amount. I'm going to be looking for sponsors in the next few days, and I want to feel good about the capacity of C. A. Daily to grow before I do so. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
